"I Am Cambodian"

“...so what ARE you?”

Creative Direction by Sophia Som, Photos by Janhtria Sapearn (sisters)
A simple question with complex and complicated answers regarding our communities’ identities.  A video compilation and collage depicting the many looks, genders, careers, skin tones, hair textures of what being “Cambodian” is. This project explores each individuals’ identity and personal stories through a series of questions. “I Am Cambodian” serves to break stereotypes, norms, and to delve deeper into identity. It serves to unite experiences and people, but also to highlight each person’s distinctive walks of life.
